The Street Art Chaser

“My name is William Zin (or just Willie) and I am a visual artist.

For the past 9 years, my main art form has been Street Painting with Chalk, or pavement art.  With the help of social media, many of my artworks are shared either on Facebook or on Instagram.

I perform about 15-18 chalk art events each year.  I love performing this pavement art because it is temporary and one has to be there to watch and experience as the art come to life.  After the event, the artworks are usually washed away.  Many people who come to see the art are usually saddened by the fact that they are not permanent.

Well, it is ok… I always tell the onlookers that this is like a dance or a concert, you have to be there to experience the performance in front of you.

Some onlookers follow me on social media which I fell honored and I am humbled to have followers.  Recently, I have a new follower, David Saks, who saw my work at the Ventura Street Painting & Art Festival in Ventura Harbor.

I drew “Anthony Bourdain”, as a memorial piece.

Mr. David Saks introduced himself and called himself Street Art Chaser.  He told me that he has been fascinated by all the chalk art on pavement and wall murals.  Wherever he goes, he will check and see if there are any murals near the town he visits, doesn’t matter domestically or internationally, he will find them and share them on social media.

Throughout the years since he has started photographing them, he has made a collection and willing to put into a book and share them.

I had the opportunity to meet him for lunch so we can share our views and stories, me the artist, and he, the Street Art Chaser.  Why we do the things we do.

I do because I love the creativity that allows me to express through art.

David, on the other hand, catches them through his lens so he can show them to everyone who may not have the opportunity to see them in person.  I am honored and humbled that he will include some of my work in his book.”

"One can tell that this book took a great journey to make. When reading it, and flipping through, I felt like I was on the journey with the writer...opened up my mind. Well-done."
